What range of media do you hold in your library? Is it all catalogued on Heritage?
Books, offprints, DVDs, pamphlets, Audio, Journals, newspapers and magazines, Bills, Papers, Acts, Briefings, Working papers, Surveys. Yes – everything is catalogued on Heritage.
Can you remember where you first heard about Heritage? Did you look at our website before contacting us?
We had employed a temporary Library Assistant to work on the recataloguing of the library. She mentioned it as potentially good for small or specialist libraries. We then did a search of other resources and in the end decided on Heritage as it seemed to meet our needs.
Do you remember how many library management systems you looked closely at?
I’m afraid I can’t remember – it was rather a long time ago!
What were you looking for in a library management system? What were your priorities?
Priorities were: Ease of use, importing data from other databases and records from BL, the ability to use a bespoke classification system, ability to catalogue and variety of media, searchability, online access.
Why did you choose Heritage over the other systems you were considering?
We have a very specialist library and we felt that Heritage would enable us to make our collection easily searchable for staff. The ability to use keywords, wildcard searches, advanced searching etc. has made our library much more accessible and I feel it is used more because of this. In particular I felt the Heritage staff understood the needs of a small organisation and a specialist library.
What are your overall impressions of ISOxford staff (this includes Sales, Training and Support staff, plus any Developers you may have dealt with)?
All of the services I have received from ISOxford have been fantastic. My queries have been dealt with speedily, the training was excellent and the staff are always helpful.
How did the initial installation process of Heritage go? Did you find it straightforward?
Heritage technical staff worked with our IT support over the phone to enable a swift and speedy installation. I was able to oversee the installation and understand the process fully – this was due to the patience of the staff at ISOxford!
What did you think of the Heritage training?
The training enabled me and our library assistant to do everything we require almost immediately after the training. We were up and running straight away. The system was very simple to use. I’m not sure I am making the most of the system now and I am sure there are a lot of the tools that I am not using simply because I don’t know they are there! It might be really nice to have update on the training…
How have you found the support service from ISstaff?
Excellent – timely, speedy and helpful even when I have forgotten daft things like adding a reader record!
Have you used the support website? How useful did you find it?
Occasionally but I tend to ring for any questions.
How has Heritage improved the day-to-day running of the library and services offered to your users?
Heritage has totally changed our library and library service. It has made the library much more accessible, usable, searchable. It has made cataloguing much easier and it means I can keep track of everything in the library with much great ease. Issuing books to staff means I know where they are at all times and can track them down if I need them.
What are your favourite features in Heritage?
QuickCat is fantastic! We were able to recatalogue all our books in a much more speedy fashion due to the fact that we had QuickCat. Without it, the reclassification of our library would have taken considerably longer and cost considerably more. The online access is also great. It means that staff can access the database from their terminals and search without having to ask me – this has freed up my time.
Do you have any other comments you would like to make about ISOxford or Heritage? Would you recommend it/us to other libraries?
I would most definitely recommend Heritage to other similar small and specialist libraries.

One Plus One have been using Heritage since 2007. They currently have the Quickcat Online Module and Heritage Online (Basic).
