What range of media do you hold in your library? Is it all catalogued on Heritage?

Can you remember where you first heard about Heritage? Did you look at our website before contacting us?
As a “long in the tooth” health care librarian, I remember its predecessor Bookshelf (?)and its association with the Cairns library I think, so I was already aware of the good reputation it enjoyed in those days. So it was a logical choice to think in terms of the relaunched Heritage when wishing to choose a library management system back in 1996/1997.
Do you remember how many library management systems you looked closely at?
Only had practical experience of a couple of systems Tinlib and InMagic.
What were you looking for in a library management system? What were your priorities?
Cost Support/Help Ease of use
Why did you choose Heritage over the other systems you were considering?
Good reputation/pedigree Did everything that was required Continually being developed Helpdesk Used by other medical and health care libraries
What are your overall impressions of IS Oxford staff (this includes Sales, Training and Support staff, plus any Developers you may have dealt with)?
Generally good. Helpful.
How did the initial installation process of Heritage go? Did you find it straightforward?
Yes – back in 1996, I think I was one of the first to have the Windows version installed.
What did you think of the Heritage training?
Like the variety of options available for training e.g. e.g. trainers coming to your place of work attending IS Oxford Telephone training Ability to purchase training vouchers
How have you found the support service from IS staff?
Sometimes experience delays in having problems dealt with once reported.
Have you used the support website? How useful did you find it?
Yes accessed helpsheets on certain topics.
Are you a member of Marvin, our list server? Do you find Marvin a useful service?
Yes – its good to share common problems and solutions.
How has Heritage improved the day-to-day running of the library and services offered to your users?
Yes, it’s made a big difference in being able to promote our stock and services, particularly now we are going down the road of wanting Heritage installed on our intranet and internet and can start to offer SDI and current awareness services, provide electronic links to documents, as well as enabling our users to access us 24/7 from wherever they are – home, work, etc.
What are your favourite features in Heritage?
The reports section is extremely useful in helping to generate important management information.
Have you got any suggestions for features that aren’t presently available in Heritage that you would like to see?
Not at the moment – but we are confident in the knowledge that Heritage does not stand still and is constantly developing.
Do you have any other comments you would like to make about IS Oxford or Heritage? Would you recommend it/us to other libraries?

Nobles Hospital have been using Heritage since 1998. They currently have four additional full access licences, two OPAC licences, the Serials Management Module (including Acquisitions) and the Fines Module.
