Our monthly 'dress down' day raised £26 for Wheatley Summer Kids Club.
On the first Monday of each month IS staff can come to the Chapel in their casual clothes in return for a donation of £2 to the charity being supported. Staff can nominate any good cause they feel deserves a bit of extra help. This month we are sponsoring Wheatley Summer Kid's Club, this year called MegaMakers. It’s run by a local group of volunteers, headed up by our own Dan Evenhuis, under an organisation called Fusion Youth & Community UK.
A note from Dan:
A huge thanks for your £26 of donations from August’s dress-down day.
Over the last week I’ve been running a kids club for 150 kids (148 turned up) and 96 volunteers (36 of those teenagers). It’s been such a fantastic week.
We live by the old African saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”. Bringing up kids is a lot of work, and as they progress through life, the kids are trying to work out the answers to the questions, “Who am I, What am I like, What are my values”. It is helpful for them to have positive role-models outside of the immediate family whom they can aspire to, and this week was such a great success in respect to this. We’ve been running for 11 years now, many teens and young adults have grown up through this work and are developing beautifully (I’m still growing and developing as I engage with this work as well).
So thanks again for your support. We don’t charge for this event (but ask for donations) as we want to encourage families that might be a bit tight financially, so your donation really helped.
