We joined in a few days early (as some staff don't work on Friday!).
On the first Monday of each month IS staff can come to the Chapel in their casual clothes in return for a donation of £2 to the charity being supported. Staff can nominate any good cause they feel deserves a bit of extra help. Friday 5th October is Jeans for Genes day and we always support this worthy cause.
The lucky winner of a Kindle Fire was Evelyn Simpson from National Museums Scotland.
We'll be running another draw at the CILIP Showcase in London in November - if you're coming along please don't forget to hand your visitor badge back at the end to be entered in the draw.
Our Dress-down day charity this month was chosen by Debbie Bailey.
On the first Monday of each month IS staff can come to the Chapel in their casual clothes in return for a donation of £2 to the charity being supported. Staff can nominate any good cause they feel deserves a bit of extra help. Debbie's reason for choosing Sobell House was personal: "The nurses were absolutely fabulous helping us to manage my brother at home even right up until the very end. Something he was very passionate about wanting to be around his children and in a home environment".
IS Oxford are delighted to announce the integration of the Heritage Library Management System with OverDrive, the leading distributor of eBooks for libraries and schools worldwide.
Heritage Online has provided access to eBooks to Heritage users for some years now, but the ability to work closely with OverDrive enables us to enhance our service and provide a truly integrated eBook solution for UK schools and colleges.
‘We want Heritage and Heritage Cirqa users to have access to all the resources they require, whatever the format and wherever they are found. Linking Heritage Cirqa to OverDrive gives our users access to a large library of ebook titles from a leading supplier and this is evidence of our commitment to providing current and relevant software and services. So now, not only can librarians deliver books in a new format for their users – and one that might more readily be taken up than before – they can also explore alternative supply channels and extract maximum value from hard-won budgets.'
IS Oxford’s Sales Manager, Emma Duffield
To enable the integration the Heritage Self-Service Module is required.
OverDrive offers library users access to eBooks on devices they already use, supporting Windows®, Mac®, iPod®, iPhone®, iPad®, Sony® Reader, Kobo™ eReader, Android™, BlackBerry®, Windows Phone and other devices.
We have recently enhanced our Support Services portfolio for all Heritage users.
Each week, all customers with a current support contract will now receive an email with a hint or tip outlining a useful feature provided in Heritage that they may not be aware of. We are constantly trying to think of ways in which we can further educate our users about the rich functionality within Heritage and the related modules. Our Open Days are an excellent opportunity to communicate ideas and information, but not everyone can get to an Open Day, so the weekly email service is a quick way of drip-feeding our busy users with information they will hopefully find of interest. Obviously they can unsubscribe at any point if they wish!
Sparks fund life-saving research into conditions affecting babies, children and mums-to-be.
On the first Monday of each month IS staff can come to the Chapel in their casual clothes in return for a donation of £2 to the charity being supported. Staff can nominate any good cause they feel deserves a bit of extra help. A friend of Eoin Garland, our Senior Trainer, and three others recently cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for Sparks. We donated £31.
"We are proud to be a Heritage school" (Lisa Smith, Librarian)
The International School of Aberdeen were previously using the Eclipse Library Management System but have decided to move to Heritage rather than upgrade their existing software. We are delighted to have them on board!
It is now possible to seamlessly integrate enriched content into Heritage enquiry results. (more)
Libraries using the Heritage or Heritage Cirqa Library Management Systems from IS Oxford can now choose Syndetic PLUS, an enhanced OPAC enrichment service from Bowker, an affiliated business of ProQuest. Through Syndetic Solutions advanced widget technology, IS Oxford’s customers will be able to seamlessly integrate enriched content into their OPACs, making them more useful than ever for both library staff and users.
“Syndetics PLUS allows Heritage libraries to customise their Syndetics content to match the look and feel of their OPAC, creating seamless integration that was previously not possible,” said Pam Roud, Sales Director for Bowker UK and International. “All of the valuable content the library subscribes to will be easy to find and visible in their full record display.”
University Campus Suffolk, who have their Heritage LMS hosted by IS Oxford, has taken advantage of this development. “IS Oxford did all the work needed, so very little work was done by us. We were kept informed by Syndetics and IS Oxford throughout the whole process.” said Abby Barker, the eResources Librarian.
Emma Duffield, Sales Manager for IS Oxford, added ‘We are delighted to be able to integrate Syndetics with our products, as enriched content will be of great value to many of our customers.’
Syndetics Plus™ combines more than 40 million valuable content enrichment elements with advanced widget technology to seamlessly integrate bibliographic data within library OPACs. The service’s implementation is quick and, plus options allow each library to customize. Patron-friendly access eliminates pop-ups and endless clicking back and form. Further new content elements are simple to integrate into the established library template.
