Formerly users of Sirsi Unicorn, the NIMR selected Heritage following an Invitation To Tender process.
NIMR is a research institute dedicated to studying important questions relevant to all aspects of health. The Institute is the largest supported by the Medical Research Council (MRC), a national organisation funded by the British taxpayer that promotes research into all areas of medical and related science to improve the health of the British public. The NIMR selected Heritage after an exhaustive process incuding an Invitation To Tender, on-site demonstrations and a trial of an evaluation copy.
Halesowen College changes to Heritage from OLIB, benefiting from greatly improved functionality and massive savings. Halesowen offers courses both for mature students and school leavers and appears consistently in the top 10% of colleges for examination performance. The library and learning resources service is open to the public via the Dudley Inspire scheme. It became clear to Halesowen during the procurement process that they would make a massive saving on annual maintenance with Heritage - a quarter of the cost of OLIB support on an equivalent size of system - whilst it also provided very considerable benefits over OLIB.
Users can now search the text contents of any catalogued electronic documents (e.g. PDFs) via the OPAC. Any documents attached to the catalogue can now have their contents automatically indexed as part of the catalogue record. Previously the cataloguer was required to enter a synopsis or summary into a notes field and/or keywords to make the content searchable; so this new development will be a major step forward for a number of Heritage users. The results can be viewed as part of the normal OPAC search in Heritage and Heritage Online.
Version 4.2.9 includes a brand-new Report Designer with a powerful search facility.
Heritage comes supplied with hundreds of pre-designed reports covering most of the usual requirements from around the system. Given the ever-growing library of these reports (and the ones you will add to it), we have introduced a search facility which will make it much quicker and easier to locate relevant reports from the title information.
Reports are now organised into folders covering each module specifically and there are also 'Favourites' and 'Recently Run' folders to help locate often and recently run reports more easily.
If you urgently need a new library system, but don't have the budget yet, then perhaps we can help.
Heritage Library Management Software is available under ‘buy-now, pay-later’ arrangements. Various options are available and there is no interest to pay on any of them. So perhaps you might be able to make the change sooner than you think?
Training and Services Vouchers can now be purchased for future training sessions and other services.
These are a great way to plan ahead, or spend the remainder of a budget at the end of the financial year, if it cannot be carried across. You can purchase vouchers for any amount over £50 and they can be used for a range of services including: Heritage Training Days (on-site or in Oxford), Heritage Workshops, Web Training, On-site Technical Visits, Remote System Configuration/Upgrades.
Vouchers can be purchased at any time. We will issue you with a training voucher for the correct amount and put a credit on your customer account with us. Vouchers should be used within 12 months of purchase. If you sometimes need to spend money quickly at year-end then training vouchers would be an ideal solution.
A new and exciting OPAC interface for Heritage is now available.
Clean, elegantly designed and highly functional, it offers a host of new features which have been well-received by users, including book, CD and DVD covers, Google previews, reviews and star ratings, reading lists, saved searches and library news. The OPAC can be customised easily to the user's requirements including text size, search precision and default display formats.
Brand-new for version 4.2.9, this module records circulation transactions when the main Heritage system is inaccessible- due to network problems, server upgrading, system maintenance etc. If your network is prone to this kind of down-time then we highly recommend it. The module will upload the the offline circulation transactions for you when the system is back online again. Unlike many other library management systems, there is no requirement to load the off-line data before circulation resumes (although it is advisable to do it soon afterwards).
